Larry Kuhse Obituary

Groton - Larry D. Kuhse, 55, of Groton, husband of 37 years to Kim (Holland) Kuhse, passed away Monday, March 10, 2014, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, after a brief illness.

Born in New London, he was the son of the late Alvin and Evora (Regan) Kuhse and lived in Groton since 1974. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Ledyard High School Class of 1976. Larry was a corrections officer for the Department of Corrections at the Gates Correctional Institution in Niantic for 12 years retiring in 1996.

He was very active with Groton town little league, serving as past president as well as coordinator of Challenger Little Baseball for eight years.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his two children, Larry D. Kuhse II and Erin E. Kuhse, both of Groton as well as their significant others, Roo Bosco and Randy Edenshaw; siblings, Paul and Alan Kuhse, both of Ledyard; many nieces and nephews; and his longtime best friend, EJ Smith of Gales Ferry.

He was predeceased by a son, Ryan C. Kuhse.

His family will receive friends starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, followed by a service at 11 a.m., at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1 (51 Williams Ave.) in Mystic. His burial will be private.

There will be no viewing since his wife refuses to honor his request to have him sitting in his recliner with a glass of Disaronno in his hand so he would appear natural to visitors.

In lieu of flowers, everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Larry's life in their own way, raising a glass of their favorite drink in his memory would be quite appropriate. Larry would hope that you will do an unexpected and unsolicited act of kindness for some poor unfortunate soul in his name.

Messages of condolence may be mailed to P.O. Box 1878, Groton, CT 06340.

I think you were with me last night. I felt you get out of bed and start walking around. And I knew immediately that you were there to help Joe cross over. And Joe died. And I believe you were with him. Thank you. I miss you and I so love you.

Kim and family,
I am so sorry to hear about this news of Larry, I just found this out today, May 14, as you know Larry and I were very good buds, I worked along side of him for many years at EB, we spent quite a bit of time together, sometimes we were both assigned to work on the same job, my memories of him will always remain, although I move to Florida in 1988 , I would often visit you when I came to CT, I am glad that I kept in touch and I am just blessed to have known him, he will be missed by me as well. RIP my good man. I admired him, May God bless you and the family.

Dear Kim, family & friends,
The world is a different place now without Larry, but certainly better off because of his short time here with us. Ryan will help Larry acclimate into the world of spirit, all is as it should be according to God's plan. Lots of love and hugs...
