Montville - Ruth E. Mock, 87, of Oakdale, passed away on Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at Pendleton Health Care in Mystic with her family by her side.

She was born on Dec. 2, 1922, in Mechanicsville, N.Y., to the late Arthur and Ella Downing. She graduated from McKee High School and then married Francis X. Mock of Brooklyn, who predeceased her.

Ruth was a very independent young lady growing up in Staten Island, N.Y. She worked at City Bank Farmer's Trust Co. in Manhattan, where she also studied photography and painting. She used to tap dance on the radio and danced every chance she could throughout her entire life. Ruth was dearly loved by her friends and family and was always very encouraging towards her family's goals, hopes, and dreams.

She is survived by her sons, Brian Mock and wife, Lori, of Griswold and John Mock and wife, Conni Ellisor, of Nashville, Tenn.; a brother, James Downing of Staten Island; a sister, Lee Bender of Lancaster, Pa.; and a granddaughter, Caity McCollister of Nashville.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, at Our Lady of The Lakes Church in Oakdale. A calling hour will be held one hour prior to Mass at the church, and a reception downstairs will follow. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Montville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Town of Montville Senior Center.

Dear Brian and Lori:
My most sincere and heartfelt sympathy at the loss of your mother( and mother-in-law). I always enjoyed spending some time with Ruth when at the Friary. I am sorry I had to work on Friday, the day of Ruth's funeral. May Jesus and Mary watch over you and your family to comfort you in your sorrow.

John, Brian, and Family. Your Mother was loved by many and will be missed by many more. She was a wonderful woman who gave all she had and expected nothing in return. Her many friends at the Montville Senior Center will miss her and her wonderful smile. Kathy, and Marc Kashar and our Family

To the family and friends of Mrs. Mock: It was an honor to be her nurse at Backus Hospital. It is so wonderful to know that she was loved by so many. She touched a very special place in my heart and I will always remember her.

Dear John, Brian and family, We are so sorry to hear of your Mom’s passing. We know God personally took your Mom’s hand and led her to her new home in Heaven. She will look down forever on all those she loved so dearly. She was so caring, giving, and loving to our family, especially to, Evelyn. She always watched out for her at the Senior Center. She was Evelyn’s Angel here on Earth. We will miss her dearly, but her memory will be in our hearts forever. It was an honor to have your Mom in our lives.
