Born Nov. 26, 1953, in Elizabeth, N.J., he was the son of the late Wilbur and Margaret Metting Ferdon. He grew up in Norwalk and, as a gifted athlete, attended Fairfield University on a baseball scholarship. After graduation, Dennis worked for several years in the insurance industry, where he developed an intense interest in the law, which led him to enroll at the University of Connecticut School of Law. He received his J.D. in 1985, and embarked on a successful 24-year career as a respected personal injury attorney in the Norwich area, noted for his integrity and dedication to his clients. He took the title of "lawyer" beyond the usual definition; he saw his as being a helping profession, and with strong values and beliefs, devoted himself to righting injustice. Despite the demands of a busy law practice, Dennis found time for, and took great pleasure in, a wide variety of pursuits.
As a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, he enjoyed sharing his love of the team and the sport of baseball with his daughters, and took them to several games each season for many years. He was knowledgeable about music of all genres and had a vast collection of recordings, particularly jazz. Dennis was also well-read, and had a great appreciation of, and devotion to, good literature. A communicant of St. David's Episcopal Church, he served on the vestry there, and taught Sunday School for many years. His happiest times were spent with family, and he took great pride in the talents and accomplishments of his children.
He leaves his beloved daughters, Valerie and Olivia Ferdon, and Pamela Najarian, his wife of 21 years, all of East Lyme.
He was predeceased by his brother, David Ferdon.
His loss will also be mourned by many good friends, extended family, and colleagues.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 6, at St. David's Episcopal Church, Route 12 & 214, Gales Ferry, CT 06335.
