William Cahill Obituary

Ledyard - William "Bill" A. Cahill, 58, of Gales Ferry, husband of 38 years to Tracey (McCullen) Cahill, passed away Sunday, Sept. 7, 2014, at home.

Born in Stamford, he is the son of William Bongavene of Burlington, Vt., and the late Ann (Ferrara) Bongavene, and he had lived in Gales Ferry since 1993.

Bill was a quality assurance supervisor with BAE Systems in Newport, R.I., for 15 years and was a retired 20 year veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he was awarded several medals of valor.

He was an avid golfer, enjoyed watching the races at the Waterford Speedbowl, and was a NASCAR fan always routing for his favorite driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Bill also loved playing poker with his buddies and was an all around sports fan watching any and all teams.

In addition to his wife and father, he leaves two sons, Sean Cahill of Groton and Scott Cahill of Ledyard; sister, Cathy Flanagan of Shushan, N.Y.; his beloved granddaughter, Paige Cahill; several nieces and nephews; his father and mother-in-law, James and Dorothy McCullen of Granville, N.Y.; a brother-in-law, Gary McCullen and his wife, Tara, of Alpharetta, Ga.; and a sister-in-law, Allison Kohl and her husband, Niels, of White River Junction, N.Y.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Diane Cahill and Nancy Gore.

His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, at the Mystic Funeral Home, Route 1, 51 Williams Ave., Mystic. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery, Route 27, Mystic, with military honors.

Tracey Sean Scott,
While over the years we grew apart I have always viewed you all as family. I remember all of the hunting trips and golf outings and camping in vermont.
