Born October 27, 1964, in Norwich, he was the son of the late Hugh F. McLaughlin Jr. and Dorris (DesPres) McLaughlin. Mr. McLaughlin spent his childhood years in Jewett City amongst his many friends, cousins, and siblings. He later lived in Westerly, Mystic and Uncasville.

Timothy began his education at the Mystic Oral School for the Deaf, transferring to Griswold Elementary School in the sixth grade. As a child, Tim was active in the Jewett City Cub Scouts, Pack 20, and the Jewett City Little League. He was very involved in the Rhode Island and Connecticut deaf communities, and a member of the Hartford Chapter of ASL. He held a longtime interest in NASCAR, traveling extensively to racetracks around New England and the east coast. Tim was an avid fan of the UConn men's and women's basketball teams.

Mr. McLaughlin began his career as a printer with Mini News. He was recently employed by General Dynamics, Electric Boat Division, in Groton.

He is survived by his son, Timothy (TJ) McLaughlin Jr. of Westerly; sisters, Deirdre (Mark) Mercier of Nashville and Mary Ellen McLaughlin (Ed Peterson) of East Haddam; brothers, Hugh of Putnam and Daniel of Moosup; and aunt, Mary (Mim) Miller of Lisbon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, at St. Mary's Church, 34 N. Main St., Jewett City. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Rt. 12, Lisbon.

Another year gone by and Tim's name has been mentioned over and over when talking with my daughter Brenda Keenan Catania. Timmy will never be forgotten as he was such a big part of Brenda's life over the years. My sons met up with Tim at the car races that he loved each time they went to a race. Tim was part of our lives and always will be. Sleep well Timmy we all still think of you. Never forgotten.

Tim never came into anyone's life that does not remember him well. I am the mother of Brenda Catania and was involved with Timmy since they both started at the Oral School. And then they both rode together going to the School for the deaf in Hartford. He became almost a member of our family over the years. I will never forget Timmy. I did see him different times when I returned to CT from my home now. Sleep well Timmy.

Dear Mclaughlin Family, Norma and I share your grief. In my mind Tim was the epitome of the ultimate friend.God blessed him with an innate ability to sense your mood and then say something to make you smile if you needed it.His wit was so sharp. On occasion he would "zing" me and I didn't realize it until 10 min later. We are all blessed for having Tim in our lives. Our love to all,Norma and Norm
