Carolyn Davis Obituary

After 74 years, Carolyn Anne Gastineau Davis completed her life's journey and went to live with our Lord on Tuesday morning, November 16, 2010 with family by her side. She was active and happy until the last days of her life. Carolyn was born in Portland, Ore. on June 15, 1936, the daughter of Lloyd and Ruth Gastineau of Keokuk, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. She is survived by her younger sisters, Linda Erickson (of Newton, Iowa), Jean Notestein (of Augusta, S.C.) and Nancy Boyd (of Bokeelia, Fla.) Carolyn graduated with a nursing degree from The University of Iowa, and made caring for others her life work. She married her sweetheart, Jack Arden Davis, on September 1st 1956; they moved to California soon after as newlyweds. They were blessed with two children, Sherry Lynne Morgan (of Yorba Linda, Calif.) and Michael Arden Davis (San Diego, Calif.) She was a loving grandmother to Jenna Lynne Morgan, Grant Shelton Morgan and Matthew Arden Davis. She always considered her family to be her greatest accomplishment; she will be greatly missed by all. Carolyn will be remembered by friends and family as someone always ready to help, with a sweet smile and a quick laugh. She loved to travel and see new things whether it be across the world or just across town. She treasured her family time and loved a houseful of company. A Celebration of Life gathering is scheduled for January 9, 2011 in Palm Desert, Calif. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, or charity of your choice.

I have wonderful memories of being just one guest in her "houseful of company" over Thanksgiving years ago. I truly enjoyed getting to know my Aunt Carolyn (and the rest of my California family) as an adult and to have these new memories to add to my pile of childhood remembrances.

She was a exceptional person and mother. I am so grateful for all the gifts she gave me:
her sense of humor, patience, kindness, family traditions and unconditional love.

I always felt that I could always
talk to her about anything without
worry that she would make fun of mel.
Deepest sympathy about her passing.

Shortly after Carolyn's yongest sister Linda and I were married we flew to California where Jack met us at the airport. He took us to their home where I my new sister-in-law Carolyn (for the second time. Carolyn had attended our wedding.) who gave me a warm welcome into the family. She and Jack were generous and accomodating during our stay which also included a trip to their mountain home. We still have several of the large pine cones on our front steps. I always felt well cared for in Carolyn's presence. I share her immediate family's sorrow due to her absence.

I've known Carolyn almost her entire life and what a courageous life it was. She was outgoing, fun, independent, strong and loving, no matter what hurdles life put in her path. How sad we all are to think we won't see her sunny smile again.

Living next door to Carolyn and Jack for a few years was a great experience. What a great gal, always friendly with a happy smile. She had a heavy cross to bear the last years of her life, however, was always upbeat with a great outlook on life. She was very special to us.

Carolyn could always put a smile on Jaguar Jack's face. Working with Jack always resulted in stories about Carolyn and their children. Deepest sympathy, Bill & Sue Hall, Ocala, Florida.
