Shirley A. Murray

1924 - 2010

Shirley A. Murray, age 86 years, of Bay City, Michigan, died Thursday morning, December 9, 2010 at The Carriage House of Bay City. She was born to the late Daniel and Rhoda (Ashenfelter) Presley on April 21, 1924 in Saginaw. Shirley was a member of Holy Trinity Church, Bay City, Mich. She loved dancing, reading, and in her younger years spending time at Wenona Beach Amusement Park and Dance Casino which was in walking distance of the family cottage on Donahue Beach. In her later years, she enjoyed traveling to the beaches of Oscoda and Tawas City. Shirley also enjoyed her winters at her home in Indio, Calif. She truly loved spending time with her family. On October 12, 1945 she married Robert F. Murray and he preceded her in death on May 30, 1998. Survivors include five of her children: Daniel Murray, David (Vickie) Murray, Paul Murray, Peter (Lynda) Murray, and Mary Beth Koch; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Rebecca Murray; and her special niece, Susan Nash. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Murray; grandson, Brian Murray "Huggy Bear"; son-in-law, Randall Koch; and her brother and sister: Stanley Presley and Bernice Piechowiak. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Saturday, December 11, 2010 at 10:00 AM in Holy Trinity Church, Bay City, Mich. Shirley will lie in state in church Saturday after 9:00 AM. Rev. Robert S. Gohm will preside and private interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to Golden Horizons or The Carriage House Activity Fund.
