Jack Conover

1929 - 2013

Jack passed away at his Palm Springs home surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his parents, Julian Darst Conover and Josephine Taylor Conover and two siblings, John Conover and Janet Conover Waring. Jack was born and raised in Chevy Chase, Maryland. He was a graduate of St. Alban's School, Amherst College (BA) and Harvard Business School (MBA). After attending Naval Officer Candidate School in 1953, he served on ships that were home-ported in Norfolk, Virginia as well as the Mediterranean Sea. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserve for 18 years, retiring as a Commander in 1975. His business career brought him to San Diego where he also maintained a home. He worked in several real estate-related entities before becoming Vice-President of Marketing and Administration for Coronado Cays, a large residential marina community. He was an avid runner and bicyclist and participated in many community organizations and racing events. He maintained a love of Basset Hounds and bred and raised a dozen over the years. Barney, the Basset, and Bo, the Turkish Angora cat, will miss their constant companion. He is survived by his husband and life partner of 49 years, Robert E. Hickok, of Palm Springs and San Diego; brother Jerry Conover (Jacquelyn) of Denver, Colorado; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. A memorial service and internment were held at Greenwood Memorial Park and Cemetery on October 26, 2013. The angels of Reliance Hospice brought peace and tranquility to Jack and his family during his last weeks.
