David Aaron Russ was born in Portales, New Mexico on July 11, 1949 where he grew into a young man. David worked as a farm hand and a cowboy in eastern New Mexico, west Texas, and on the plains of Kansas from 1968 to 1980. David moved to Bryan, Texas in 1980 to work for The Western Company. He enjoyed working in the oilfield and referred to it often. In 1985 he changed his vocation to become a Veterinary Technician at Texas A&M University. He loved working with animals and did so until his retirement in 2005. David moved to Somerville, Texas after his retirement.

He appreciated time with his family and friends and had an amazing memory, particularly for historical facts and music. He had a contagious sense of humor and loved a good conversation. He had an incredible heart for people, and would give the shirt off of his back to help anyone. It can truly be said that he never met a stranger. He lost his battle with COPD on January 31, 2012.

David is survived by his mother, Betty Parie, of Somerville, 3 sisters, and 2 brothers, Joyce Price of Somerville, Jim Rosser and wife Rose of Somerville, Barbara Ensey and husband Rick of Bryan, Richard Rosser and wife Lisa of Bryan, and Deborah Izquierdo and husband Javier of Houston along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
