Jean Fredrick Weber

March 14, 1923 - July 13, 2011

Emma Jean Fredrick Weber died peacefully on July 13, 2011 with her family by her side. A funeral Mass celebrating Jean's life will be at11 a.m. Thursday, July 14, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Schulenburg, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 15, at Elmwood Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene Texas, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. Friends are welcome to join the family.

Jean was born in Sandusky, Michigan to Magdelena and Jacob Fredrick on March 14, 1923. She later lived in Schulenburg, Texas, with her sister and brother in law Anne and Dr. Joe Money, while attending Hermann Hospital School of Nursing in Houston, Texas. Jean and Lt. Jg. Raymond Victor Weber, USN, were married in Cape Cod, MA on May 19, 1945. Following Ray's Navy pilot commitment during World War II, the couple relocated to College Station, Texas where Ray '50 received his degree in mechanical engineering at Texas A&M.

The couple moved to Abilene with their three young children in 1956 after Ray accepted a position with the new consulting engineering firm of Tippett and Gee. Jean and Ray were active members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Abilene. They were faithful and involved parents at St. Joseph's Academy, Central Catholic High School, and within the Abilene civic community. Jean's devotion to her career in nursing has been well recognized. For almost 40 years she served in a variety of clinical, teaching, and nursing leadership positions at Hendrick Memorial Hospital in Abilene. Jean retired from Hendrick Memorial Hospital in January 2001.

In retirement she moved to Athens, Texas where she volunteered with the auxiliary at East Texas Medical Center and the Clint W. Murchison Library until she relocated to College Station, Texas in January 2009. Jean was especially thankful for the many friendships, the fun and support she enjoyed with the ladies of her card and luncheon clubs while living in Athens. The staff and friendships at Waldenbrooke Estates, Bryan Texas, were very special to Jean during her later retirement.

Jean will be remembered by family and friends for her faith, commitment to family, her warm and outgoing personality, her vibrant interest in politics, current affairs, sports and the avid enjoyment she found in her books.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, Ray, in 1971.

She is survived by her children, Rita Anne Weber, Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Joseph F. Weber, (Lt. Gen, USMC (Ret.) and wife Brenda of College Station Texas, Daniel J. Weber and wife, Adele, of Athens, Texas.

The joy of her life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Maj. Clint Weber USMC, his wife Heather, and great-granddaughter, Betsy of Yuma, Arizona, Julie Sawyer, her husband Blake, and great-granddaughters, Anna Lee and Caroline of Austin, Texas, Cameron Weber of Hoopa, California, and Audra Weber of Dallas, Texas. Jean was one of nine siblings and leaves behind; and her brother, Dr. John C. Frederick, Schulenburg Texas; and sisters, Madelyn Schrader, Ubly Michigan and Marsha Schell, Williamsburg, Michigan.

Rita, Joe, and Dan wish to express their sincere gratitude to the many friends that were the center of Jean's life before and following her retirement. An especially fond acknowledgement is sent to the wonderful staffs at Waldenbrooke Estates, Schulenburg Regency Nursing Center, and South Texas Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials may be made in honor of Jean Fredrick Weber for the benefit of the College of Nursing at the Texas A&M Health Science Center, Texas A&M HSC Foundation, 301 Tarrow St., 7th Floor, College Station, TX 77840-7896. She was a very warm and special person who touched the lives of many people and I know she will be missed by you and your families. Joe, Rita and Danny, I was so sorry to learn of your mom's death. I did not see the obit until this afternoon. Your mom and my mother were so close working at Hendricks together. I have many fond memories of us growing up together on Buccaneer. God Bless you and your families. I would have loved to have seen you today.

To express our deep sympathy to you on the loss of your love one. We thank Mrs. Jean for being there for her husband, Raymond while he served our country during WW II in the U.S.Navy. You both were members of "the greatest generation". May God's Speed Be With This Family.
