Peter Handrinos Obituary

Norwalk Resident
Peter C. Handrinos, age 42, of Norwalk, CT, died peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, August 21.
Peter was born on April 20, 1972 in Norwalk, CT. Peter graduated from Norwalk High School in 1990, where he was voted Most Likely to Succeed. He graduated magna cum laude from Yale University, earned his Masters in Philosophy from Cambridge University in England and his law degree from the University of Virginia. He is an accomplished sports writer. Peter served on the Board of Trustees for the Norwalk Public Library. He was an avid player in the North Stamford Wiffle Ball League. He facilitated negotiations for the long- standing dispute between the Norwalk Inn and the Norwalk Historical Society regarding the Grumman St. John House. Peter's participation in the University of Pittsburgh's clinical trial for rare oligoastrocytoma brain tumors will guide future medical research. He was a devoted son and brother.
Peter is survived by his parents Chris and Vasiliki (Betty) Handrinos; his sister Lisa (Vangie) Handrinos; his sister and brother-in-law Maria and Matt DeVito and his nieces Sophia and Isabella DeVito, all of Norwalk. A public viewing will be held on Monday, August 25 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at St. George Greek Orthodox Church on 238 West Rocks Road in Norwalk, CT. Peter's funeral will take place at St. George Church on Tuesday, August 26 at 10:00 am. A Christian burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
"We fall to rise, are baffled to fight better, sleep to wake." This quote by Robert Browning was among Peter's favorites.

I am reminded of Peter's sweet soul every time I happen upon his books in the library. Peter is gone, but never forgotten.

I still remember Peter's kindness fondly. Every now and then I pick up the books he wrote which proudly sit in our library collection and think of the spirit in which he wrote them. May God bless his family as they continue to deal with Peter's bodily absence.

I remember Peter Handrinos fondly. He sat in when I was being interviewed for the Assistant Library Director postion. Though I was recruited into the position I was extremely nervous. There was trepidation about moving into a new territory and apprehension about leaving my position as children's librarian. I genuinely loved serving parents and children in that role. Peter was a comfort during the interview. There was neither ego nor overt or covert political innuendo in his presence. He was just a beautiful human being. I will never forget his words. He looked over my resume and said, "you've been auditioning for this position your entire career." I honestly had never thought of that.

His eyes in the photo posted with his hand underneath his chin attest to the sweetness of his soul.

By pure chance I found Peter's obituary online. I am shocked. I had not seen him since I moved to Maine in 2012, but at that time he was full of life. Peter served as a stalwart member of the committee, which I chaired, that interviewed prospective Yale students.
He did a great job. My deepest sympathy for your loss.

Peter remains in my heart as a wordsmith and genuinely nice person. What he changed his personal email to was very telling of the depth and beauty of his spirit. May he rest in peace and may his family be comforted by the strength, happiness and flowers they gave him while he was on this side of life. My sincerest condolences to you all.
