Rudolph Trautmann Obituary

Rudolph Richard Trautmann, of Westport, CT, died on March 28, 2010 at his home in Westport, CT. He was 86 years old.

Born on May 9th, 1923 in what was then Breslau, Germany, Rudi, as he was affectionately known by friends and family, attended the Breslau School of Art and after W.W.II moved to Paris, France where he met and married his wife of 58 years, Jacqueline Pierrot.

Rudi and Jacqueline immigrated to the United States in 1955, crossing the Atlantic on the USS Constitution, settling in Westport, CT in 1959.

Rudi had a long and rewarding career as a graphic artist in Paris, Los Angeles, New York, and eventually in Westport working with William Field Agency on a long list of local, national, and international blue chip accounts.

In retirement, Rudi pursued his duel passions of the outdoors and fitness. Neighbors in the Cranbury area of Westport fondly remember his daily 10 mile walks pausing curbside at regular intervals to do pushups, sit-ups and various calisthenics. Each year was capped off with a wilderness hiking excursion to remote parts of North America, usually his favorite, the Kananaskis Country in the Canadian Rockies.

In addition to his wife, Jacqueline, Rudi is survived by his two sons, Carl and his wife Irene of Darien, CT and Erik and his wife Tami of Stratford, CT, along with three beloved grandsons, Nicholas, William, and Andrew.

Friends and family are invited to a memorial celebration at the home of Carl and Irene Trautmann in Darien on May 9th.
