James Scarpone Obituary

James Michael “Jim” Scarpone, age 67, of Norwalk, died Thursday, December 2, at the Honey Hill Care Center. Born in Norwalk on January 3, 1943, Jim was the son of the late Giovito and Mary Recchia Scarpone and has lived locally all of his life. He was a former auto mechanic for Herbert Fuel in Darien. Jim was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the U.S. Army he was awarded the Purple Heart and various other medals. He was a former member of the Pastime and Laurel Athletic Clubs. He enjoyed bowling, softball, crosswords, playing cards, science and he loved animals.

Jim is survived by his three daughters; Wendi A. Scott of Norwalk, Laurie A. Houseknecht and her husband Kent, and Michelle L. Johnson and her husband Bill of Bridgeport, his siblings Lucy Austin of Hanford, CA, Pasquale Scarpone of Norwalk, R. Anthony Scarpone of Trumbull, Daniel Scarpone and Angela Vigilio of Norwalk, 4 grandchildren, Samantha, Ryan, Kaitlin and Brittney, his faithful friend Doris, and many nieces and nephews. Jim was also predeceased by his brother Emidio Scarpone.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Ave., Norwalk on Monday, December 6 at 10 AM. Full military burial honors will follow outside of church immediately following the mass and burial will be private. Jim's family will receive friends at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave., Norwalk on Sunday from 3-6 PM. Donations in his name may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., 306 Industrial Park Rd., Middletown, CT, 06457, or to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O.
