Darrell Rork Obituary

Darrell E. Rork, 77, of Grand Island died Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral. The Rev. Jonathan Sorensen will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home, with a rosary at 7.

Mr. Rork was born March 12, 1933, in Hatfield, Ark., to Raymond and Cecelia (Franssen) Rork.

He was united in marriage to Monica (Koziol) on May 10, 1954, at St. Mary's Cathedral.

He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Rork.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Monica of Grand Island; four daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Danny Engel of Grand Island, Kathy and Steve Krupski of Casper, Wyo., Karen and Tom Dinkel of LaPorte, Colo., and Karla and Dick Clarke of San Antonio; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Darrell Jr. and Jean Rork of Grand Island, Doug and Melinda Rork of Windsor, Colo., and Don Rork of Lincoln; and a sister, Lucille Haisch of Austin, Texas.

Additional survivors include grandchildren, Ben Krupski, Mike (Laurel) Krupski, Angi Rork, September and Tanner Rork, Jessica, Kelli Jo and Tommy Dinkel, Mickey and Adrean Clarke, Taylor Albright, Kristen (Bobby), Connor, Tommy and Tanner Ervin, two great-grandchildren, Stetson and Jaxson; 29 nieces and nephews.

He moved with his family to St. Libory, when he was two and then to Grand Island when he was 10. He graduated from St. Mary's High in 1950 and served in the military during the Korean War.

He was employed at Sutter's Dairy, Montgomery Wards and Wilson Concrete. He later owned and operated Eddy Street Bait Shop.

He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral. He was also a member of the Platt Duetsche, the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion of Palmer. Darrell was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and gardening. He was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Nebraska football.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Rork, grandson, Clint Rork and stepgrandchildren, Kathy MacWilliams and David Clarke.
