Leona Bernt Obituary
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus. The Rev. Tom Weisbecker will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bonaventure Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at McKown Funeral Home in Columbus with a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will continue from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born Aug. 10, 1915, in Duncan to Joseph and Mary (Drozd) Ziemba.
She married Sylvester F. Bernt on April 29, 1946, at St. Stanislaus Church in Duncan. He preceded her in death.
Survivors of the immediate family include three sons, Russell (Julie) Bernt of Arlington, Va., Charlie (Susan) Bernt of Lincoln and Greg (Liz) Bernt of Lincoln; and a sister, Helen Cheloha.
Other survivors include grandsons Jon Bernt, and Matt (Lizzie) Bernt; and granddaughters Lisa (Andrew) Schafers, Lori Moniz, Jessica Bernt, Michaela Bernt and Helayna Bernt; and great-grandchildren Casey and Malerie Adams, Amanda and Kara Moniz and Aiyanna Casillas.
The couple farmed in the Duncan area until moving to Columbus in 1958. She was a homemaker and enjoyed doing yard work.
Leona was a member of St. Bonaventure Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Aleah Bernt; and brothers and sisters.
Memorials may be directed to the Golden Living Center in Columbus.
