Marvin Athey Obituary

AURORA - Marvin Scott Athey, Jr., 65, of Aurora died Friday, July 27, 2012, at his home in Aurora.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Aurora United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Imperial Cemetery. Following the committal service, a reception will be held at Beth Ann Larson's home in Imperial, 919 Douglas St., Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Athey was born Jan. 30, 1947, in Imperial to Marvin Scott Sr. and Vesta (Shackelford) Athey.

Those left to cherish his memory are three sons and two daughters-in-law, Scott and Lindsay Athey, Matthew and Mary Athey, all of Fort Collins, Colo., Michael Athey of Aurora; two daughters, Barbara Athey of Ord, DeAnna Athey of York; two brothers, Patrick Athey of Anchorage, Alaska and Timothy Athey of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Nikola Stroh of San Angelo, Texas and Beth Ann Larson of Imperial.

Additional survivors include numerous other family members and friends.

Scott grew up in Chase County. He graduated in 1967 from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis. Scott enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Germany and the Philippines. Following his discharge from the Air Force, he lived in Wauneta and Aurora where he was employed by Bonnavilla, Monfort and Pizza Hut.

Scott was a wrestling enthusiast, where he was a U.S.A. Wrestling Copper Level Coach. He enjoyed fishing and was a John Wayne fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Lauren Grace Athey.
