Boothroyd, Dorothy VanArkel

Dorothy VanArkel Boothroyd, age 90, of Sarasota, FL and formerly of Ithaca, NY passed away, March 10, 2016 at the Sarasota Hospice House after a period of declining health. Dorothy was born April 3, 1925 in Cortland, NY a daughter of the late Henry and Jennie Carson VanArkel. She was graduated from Dryden High School and attended secretarial school. Her husband, Robert Boothroyd died in 1989. She was employed as a secretary at the former Boothroyd Insurance Agency. She was a former member and Past President of the Ithaca Garden Club, a former member of the Ithaca Country Club, Ithaca Yacht Club, Friends of Ithaca College and the Sarasota Garden Club. She was a Nationally Certified Judge of the American Institute of Floral Designers. She enjoyed golf, cards and spending time with the friends and family. Survivors include her brother, Elmer (Beatrice Raponi) VanArkel of Brooktondale and many nieces, nephews and cousins and a close friend Donda Korch in Sarasota. She was predeceased by seven siblings, Earl VanArkel, Thursa Smiley, Mable Hughes, Bessie Emmons, Wanda Brewster, Irene Forbes and Grace VanMarter. Memorial services will be held at 2 PM, Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Perkins Funeral Home, 55 West Main Street, Dryden with Pastor Paul Winkelman of the Freeville United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden. www.perkinsfuneralhome.com
