David Wrisley Obituary

DAVID LLOYD WRISLEY
ITHACA - David Lloyd Wrisley went peacefully to be with the Lord Sunday morning June 27th at 3:45 a.m., 85 years old. He spent his last days at Oak Hill Manor, to whom we extend a big thanks for taking wonderful care of him. With his passing goes the loving, generous husband, father and grandfather. He thought the world of all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. David was born to Frank Van Dyke Wrisley and Mabel Edith Bevan-Wrisley on the 20th of September 1924. When he was 16 years old before going to high school he would come down to Schooley's and work for Bill Schooley. He loved all people and had a great drive. David graduated in the IHS class of 1943. After investing 3 years with the Army in WWII, he wanted very much to be in the jewelry business. He therefore continued his education to become a very fine watchmaker and a GIA graduate. At this time there was a store up the street from Schooley's that was called Chandler's, with an open position to repair watches and jewelry. He accepted that position and worked successfully and well appreciated for several years. In the back of his mind he always thought of owning his own business. Not long after that, an opportunity arose to purchase part of Schooley's Inc. with a gentleman named Romey Stubel. They worked very harmoniously together until Mr. Stubel's retirement in the early 70's. This left David to purchase the remaining stock in the well developed business, and thus owning the business completely in his name. In the mid 70's when I, David's son, retired from the service, he welcomed me to join him in the business, which meant a lot. He was a member of the Brooktondale Baptist Church since 1940 and a Deacon for much of that time. His greatest joys were being with his family, grandchildren and his love of woodworking. His surviving children are Leslie Jeanne Baltich and David Ernest Wrisley II (wife Rosemarie). His grandchildren are Amy (husband Luke), Daniel (wife Julie) and Holly Baltich and Dominique Louise and David (III) Eugene (wife Jocelyn) Wrisley. Thus far, David's great-grandchildren are Ryan, Zachary and Haley Miner; Aaron, Marcus and Sadie Baltich; and Adele Marie Wrisley. David was predeceased by his wife: Jeanette Lewis, his grandson: Aaron Baltich and his son-in-law: Michael Baltich. David Wrisley will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Evening calling hours are at Wagner Funeral Home, 110 S. Geneva Street on Wednesday June 30th from 5 to 7 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at the Brooktondale Baptist Church on Thursday, July 1st at 11 a.m. A fund has been established by the family in his memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brooktondale Baptist Church, 2311 Slaterville Rd., Brooktondale, NY 14817 for the church landscaping project.

Dear David and family and Betsy, We just returned from Seattle and are sorry to hear of your dad's (brother's)home going. We got to know him first through Scott Smedley and Bergen; he was a very good and honorable man with a good sense of humor. His memory will be with us for a long time.

Sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. We were just talking of your family the other day, remembering the fun times and many memories as children at BBC and the many summer Bible School good times...even though it has be 50 plus years it seems like yesterday....What a special man he was to all even us young kids...a pleasure to remember him.

When my father died it seemed only natural that my mother should sell the store to your father , the man he apprenticed at age 16, and with whom at the time of his death, he was negotiating to purchase Heggies, another jewelry store to the west of Schooley's. I remember the warm times our two families had growing up together. My thoughts and prayers are with you, my childhood friends, Jean and Dave, and to your families as well. Fondly, Carolyn Schooley Mallory

We have patronized Schooley's since purchasing our engagement/wedding rings ,at which time we were so impressed with this family run business. We have grown to know some of the family and have always enjoyed visiting and chatting with them at the store over the years, being equally kindly received regardless of whether we were making a purchase or just stopping in to browse. We are so saddened at the loss of Mr. Wrisley as we know how close and loving this family has always been. Our deepest sympathy to Rose and Dave and all of your family.

It was a pleasure having met Mr. Wrisley, he was a person you could never forget, always had a smile and so friendly to those he saw, either in the store or on the street. He will truly be missed by many.

My condolences to all of you. Mr Wrisley was a very kind and warm man. My mother always commented on how nice he was and how he could fix her jewelry "just right" may he rest in peace Jean ( Wilcox) Sanford Naples Fl
