Eugenia Mitchell Obituary

Mitchell, Eugenia

Ithaca: Eugenia Mitchell passed away peacefully Thursday, November 24, 2011, at her home in Ithaca. She was 97. Born in Ithaca to Charles and May Smith Mitchell, she was the last surviving member of her family that settled here in 1802, whence Mitchell Street got its name. Ms. Mitchell attended Cornell University (Class of 1937) and worked there for 40 years, retiring in 1977 as an Administrative Secretary in the Agriculture College of Communication Arts. She was a former secretary of the East Lawn Cemetery Association and was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca. Eugenia was an avid gardener and a dog lover. Grateful thanks to Ray Wheaton, Dora Brind, Anita Griffin, Lucille, Virginia, Helen, Julie, Joann and the many more friends she had that enriched her life. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 30, in East Lawn Cemetery, Rev. Dr. James R. Henery officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the SPCA of Tompkins County would be appreciated. Arrangements are by the Wagner Funeral Home.

I will remember always the kindness and enthusiasm Jeannie had for her gardens and her four legged friends. She is an inspiration to all who met her. She added a very special beauty to the world and for that I am thankful. Rest in peace knowing you have blessed those who's path you have crossed.

I will always remember Eugenia as caring, warm person. She taught others and myself how to live a richer life. She always gave full love and kindness to her collie dogs whom she loved so much.

Jeannie was our next-door neighbor when my brother and I were growing up. She was always upbeat, active, and a good friend. I have so many fond memories of tagging along when she was walking her dogs in the evening. I will always remember Jeannie.
