LAKELAND - Mrs. Mary Lowe, age 87, passed away on Sun., 11/1/09 from heart failure.
Mrs. Lowe was born in Caddo, Texas on 1/10/1922. She received her nursing degree and training at Parkland Memorial Hospital, Dallas, TX. During WWII, she joined the Manhattan Project to work at the Kadlec Medical Facility at Hanford National Laboratory in Richland, WA. She relocated to Birmingham, AL where she worked at South Highlands Hospital for 25 years, serving as Nursing Director for 12 years.
Mrs. Lowe retired to Lakeland in 1982, where she was a member of Southside Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lowe was preceded in death by her husband, Jackson Lowe; and sisters, Juanita George, and Mildred Priddy. She is survived by daughter, Vicki Lowe, of Lakeland and Washington, DC; sister, Bennie M. Wood, of Denver, CO; and nephews, James Karen George, of Dallas, TX; Robert Susan Godwin, of Crested Butte, CO.
A graveside service will be held on Fri., 11/13/09 at 11 00 AM at Lakeland Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Polk County SPCA, 5850 Brannen Road, Lakeland, FL 33813 or to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823. Online guestbook available at
