LAKE WALES - Raymond E. Sherrer, 90, of Lake Wales passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at the Winter Haven Health & Rehabilitation Center due to complications from Alzheimer's.
He was born November 2, 1920 in Coffee County, AL to the late Thomas & Maggie (Kyser) Sherrer; and came to Polk County from Alabama in 1947. He was a retired mechanic/welder for Citrus World/Florida's Natural and a member of the Westside Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking and vegetable gardening.
Raymond was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Sherrer, daughter, Velma Mates, parents, 5 sisters and 4 brothers. Survivors include his daughters, Vera Sherrer of Lake Wales and Earline McDonald (Mike) of Babson Park; brothers, Cleo Sherrer of Elba, AL and Edgar Sherrer of Pavo, GA; 5 grandchildren, Lisa Goodwin (Gary), Nancy Barber (Greg), Carol Wolff, Martha McDonald & Cathy McDonald; and 5 great grandchildren, Ryan Barber, Julia Wolff, Jared Wolff, Joshua Barber and Olivia Barber.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 9, 2011 and the funeral service will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Marion Nelson Funeral Home in Lake Wales with Rev. J.R. Thomas and Rev. Stephen Bolden officiating. Interment will follow at the Lake Wales Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family and the webcast of the service can be viewed at
