LAKELAND - Cosmo "Gus" Davi, 89, died Tuesday, March 7, 2012 at Good Shepherd Hospice due to heart failure.
He was born June 27, 1922 in Glasco, NY. After retiring from the clothing industry as a vice president and manager of a sportswear company, he moved to Lakeland from Swansea, MA in 1997. Mr. Davi served in the U.S. Marine Corp. He attended design school in New York City and was employed by Bunny's Casuals in Miami, FL as a designer. In 1970, he was featured in the New York Times for establishing one of the first daycare centers for the children of factory employees.
An avid golfer, he was a four-time winner of the Fall River Country Club Member-Member Tournament, first with his partner Masse Elhilow and three consecutive years with Lenny Alves. He also brought to the club Yankee golf guests Catfish Hunter, Phil Rizutto, Yogi Berra, Elston Howard, and Billy Martin. As a member of the Sandpipers Golf and Country Club in Lakeland, FL, in 2001, he had two holes in one.
Mr. Davi is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy Davi of Lakeland; son Joseph Davi and his wife Candace of Deerfield Beach, FL; his daughter Wiley Davi and her partner Michele L'Heureux of Waltham, MA; and his sister Theresa Barone and her husband Albert of Lakeland, FL. He is also survived by his granddaughter Kendall Grace Davi.
Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 10 at 11 a.m. at Gentry Morrison Funeral Home at 5245 US 98 North Lakeland, FL, followed by a mercy meal at the Sandpipers Golf Course recreation hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Good Shepherd Hospice. Donations should be made out to Chapters Health, 12973 N.
