WINTER HAVEN - Ray Oakes, husband of former Osprey HOA president and board member, Barbara Oakes, passed away Saturday morning, January 19, 2013, due to COPD.
Ray was born on June 20, 1932, in Middleton, Mass. He entered the United States Air Force in 1952, retiring with the rank of Tech Sergeant in 1972. Ray worked as an administrator for British Telecom and the American Red Cross. He operated a bed & breakfast in Beck Row, England, for 10 years.
Ray and his first wife, Margaret, returned to the U.S. in 1992, living in Kissimmee until Margaret's death in 2002. Ray resided in Mockingbird Ridge, Deer Creek Resort in Davenport, FL, until his death on January 19, 2013, at the age of 80.
Ray is survived by his wife, Barbara, daughter Janette Dirksen, wife of Ernst Dirksen, stepchildren David, Susan, Paul Rambo.
Interment will be private. For those wishing to send Barbara and family a card, the mailing address is: 42769 Hwy. 27, Lot 110, Davenport, FL, 33837.
