WINTER HAVEN - Mary Ruth Counter, 103, stepped peacefully from this life into glory on Thursday, April 16, 2015.
Mary was born in Jewett, Ohio on August 14, 1911, and moved to Winter Haven at age 12. Both Mary and husband Clifford graduated from Winter Haven High School in the class of 1930, and married in 1934. They were both life-long members of Beymer UMC and she was a resident of Lake Howard Heights, assisted living facility at the time of her passing. Mary Ruth Albaugh Counter was selected and honored to be 'Miss Winter Haven' in the city's 2011, Sentinel Celebration.
She has two sons, Jerry Counter (wife Jo Ann) of Winter Haven and John Counter (wife Mary Charlotte, deceased) of Tampa. Mary Ruth Counter had 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, Clifford Leroy Counter and brother, Sam Albaugh.
Funeral Services will be at Beymer UMC on Monday, April 20, 2015, at 2:00 PM with visitation prior to service. In lieu of flowers, the family is suggesting a contribution in her honor to Cornerstone Hospice, 259 Havendale Blvd. N.W., Winter Haven, FL 33881.
