Sheila Spacht Obituary

SPACHT, SHEILA; age 72; of Mt. Pleasant; passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014; at Prestige Centre due to complications of MS which she courageously battled for 48 years, having been first diagnosed in 1966. Sheila was born on September 21, 1941, in Lebanon, Indiana, to Doris and Harry Ramsower. She was a graduate of Caro High School and Central Michigan University, earning a Master’s in elementary education. She began her teaching career in East Grand Rapids. She then returned to CMU and was in charge of student teachers as a graduate assistant at the university lab school while working on her master’s. It was at this point in her life when she was diagnosed and began her battle with MS. Her next move was to a teaching position in Caro, Michigan. She met and married Pastor Clyde Spacht from Unionville in 1968. He was transferred to Sidney, Michigan, where they began their family and Sheila substitute taught, along with taking on the busy role of a pastor’s wife. They adopted two children as infants, Greg and Beth (Sinclair). After retiring from the ministry, they moved to Mt. Pleasant to be close to her only brother, Gary and family. After Clyde’s passing, Sheila moved into the Prestige Centre in November of 2001. She was very content and greatly appreciated by the caring and considerate staff. Sheila was known for her beautiful smile, sense of humor, and determination to keep as active as possible. In the past, Sheila loved to needlepoint, put puzzles together, canning, sewing, recycling, and Bible study. One of Sheila’s fondest memories was her 3-month trip to Europe the summer she graduated from CMU. Sheila is survived by her brother, Gary Ramsower (Judy); children, Beth Sinclair, Greg Spacht; granddaughter, Savannah Sinclair; two nieces, Tamara Johnston and Trisa Thrush (Shawn) and their five children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Spacht, and her parents, Doris and Harry Ramsower. As per Sheila’s wishes, her body was donated to U of M for research. There will be a Memorial Service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the MS Society of Michigan or Woodland Hospice.
