Mary E. Garringer
March 6, 1940 - Jan. 9, 2011

Age 70, of Alma passed away Sunday, January 9, 2011, at her home after a five year battle with breast cancer.
Memorial services for Mary will be held Friday, January 14th at 11am at the First Presbyterian Church in Alma with Pastor Tom Brackbill officiating. Interment will be in Pennington Memorial Gardens. Friends may call on the family on Friday from 10am until time of services. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Pardee Cancer Center, Mid-Michigan Hospice or the Mid-Michigan Community Gratiot Cancer Center. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma.
Mary was born March 6, 1940 in Goshen, Indiana the daughter of Thomas and Florence (Foster) Tilley. She graduated from High School in 1958 and attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. She married Charles Garringer on February 25, 1961 in Augusta, Georgia. Mary and her husband owned and operated the Office Center for 35 years and also owned the Thistle, a womens clothing store, for 10 years. She was also active in the community being a past president and member of the Jaycee's Womens Auxillary, a member of the Alma Women's Club and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for the past 44 years and served as a deaconess with the church. Mary enjoyed spending time up north at her cabin near Crystal Mountain and watching nature on the Pine River looking out her window at home in Alma. Mary also enjoyed doing interior decorating and gardening.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Charles, three children, Thomas (Danielle) Garringer of Alma, Jason (Jill) Garringer of Pittsford, New York and Amy (Craig) Monette of Twin Lake, Michigan. Eight grandchildren, Kelby, Jaden, Savannah, Andrew, Lauren, Morgan, McKenna and Braeden. Also two sisters, Jane (Noble) Lewallen of Niles and Joann McKibbin of Greenville, S. Carolina and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents.
