Lawrence Pfeffer Obituary

Lawrence Earhart Pfeffer passed away on September 25, 2013 at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Esther Ledig Pfeffer for the 69 years. Father of Susan Elaine Pfeffer (partner Patricia Schell). Larry (as he was called) was the youngest of 11 children of the late Solene Kerth Pfeffer and Harry Pfeffer. Preceded in death by brothers Alton, Henry, Phillip and Roland Pfeffer; sisters Catherine and Mildred Pfeffer, Clara Pfeffer Ostendorf, Sarah Pfeffer Stoltz and Delia Pfeffer Schmidt. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Larry was a machinist by trade and loved it. He came up through the ranks starting at Holzer Sheet Metal. During the war he worked at Higgins Boats working on the landing craft used at Normandy. After the war he worked at Champion Machine Works owned by his older brother, Roland, and learned the craft well. He then went to work for the US Army Corps of Engineers for 32 years, retiring in 1987. Mr. Pfeffer also was a Master Mason in Forum Lodge 395 for 60+ years. He was Master of his lodge in 1957. Larry was a kind and funny man…always ready with a joke. Though a product of the depression, he was generous with a buck. The family could not have gotten thru his last several years without the competent and loving care of his caregivers, Virgina, Kim, Ruth and Gerry. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home 4747 Veterans Blvd. Metairie on Monday September 30, 2013 at 11:00am. Visitation from 9:00am until time of service. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Condolences may be offered at www.leitzeaganfuneralhome.com.

Last of his generation of siblings, Lawrence was indeed a funny man, as were all the Pfeffers. I'm glad you included that in the obituary. He was dear, generous, astute, and caring. I know he has left you many joyful memories and pearls of wisdom. Bless you all.

Larry will be sorely missed. He was a wonderful friend, neighbor, & Little Farms United Church of Christ member. He always had a smile and was willing to help in any way. He was quick to hand out metal back scratchers and/or wooden stamp dispensers that he made. I will cherish mine. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Esther, Susan, and his caregivers.
