Andrew Jumonville Obituary

Andrew J.S. "Jack" Jumonville departed this life at 6:05 p.m., on November 11, 2013. Jack was born on September 17, 1935 in Plaquemine, Iberville Parish, Louisiana, and was 78 years old. He attended St. Johns of Plaquemine School for grade school and Catholic High School of Baton Rouge before transferring to Plaquemine High School where he lettered in football and baseball and was graduated in 1953. Jack graduated from LSU in 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts having majored in History and minored in English. Following his sophomore and junior years, he attended the United States Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Class in Quantico, Virginia. Upon graduation from LSU, he was commissioned a USMC Second Lieutenant. Jack was on active duty from 1957 to 1960 having been promoted to First Lieutenant in 1958 and served as an artillery officer, forward observer, platoon commander, fire direction officer and battery executive officer. He qualified as an expert marksman. He was released from active duty in 1960 and became a member of the inactive reserve, where he was promoted to Captain in 1962, before being honorably discharged in 1967. Jack's proudest achievement was being a Marine. As he was wont to say: "You own it forever, The Title, 'United States Marine'." In 1963, Jack graduated from the law school at LSU where he finished first in his class, was editor-in-chief of the law review, was a member of the Order of the Coif and was given the LSU Most Outstanding Graduate Award. Jack started his law practice in Lafayette, Louisiana, with a prominent firm until 1969 when he left to start his own practice. Upon retirement he was the senior named partner in Lafayette's largest law firm at the time. Since 2004, Jack worked part-time as an Assistant Attorney General, handling oil and gas and property issues. Jack is survived by his wife and best friend of 35 years, Mary Moore Jumonville, his children, Andrew J.S. "Andy" Jumonville, II, Jacqueline "Lynn" Jumonville Simon, Jonathan E.B. "Jeb" Jumonville, Amy "Aimee" Jumonville Hollier and Virginia "Gigi" Jumonville Abide, thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and his sole surviving sibling, his dear sister, Lillie "SeSe" Jumonville Holstead. He was preceded in death by his youngest child, Jason A.T. Jumonville, whom Jack dearly loved and missed, his parents, E.A. Jumonville and Lillie Brown Jumonville, and brothers, J.E. "Boyze" Jumonville, Sr., Alex E. "Bubba" Jumonville and John C.B. "Skeezix" Jumonville. The family would like to thank the wonderful, compassionate caregivers at St. Joseph Hospice as well as Jack's longtime caregivers, Vera and Scott, from Guardian Home Health Care. As per Jack's wishes, a celebration of his life will be held for family and friends at a later date. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Patty and I send our deepest sympathies. What a great Marine and great friend. We were not close at TBS, but developed a strong friendship over the years. He was a joyful happy gentleman who I know was loved and respected by all of us that knew him well. May he rest in peace and all our love and respect to the family.

Mary:
M'Lou and I were so sad the learn about the passing of our good friend, Jack. He was definitely one of my favorites and truly one of a kind. I can recall as if it was yesterday his smile, laughter, and countless jokes. I first met him at LSU my freshman year when he was working at the "Varsity Shop". We just seemed to "click". May you and the family take solace in knowing how many he touched while he was among us. God Bless.
