Harold J. Clavier Sr.

Harold J. Clavier, Sr. passed away on March 26, 2015, at his Metairie home. Harold, who was 93, was born in New Orleans on February 5, 1922. He lived in Talisheek during his early years and was a resident of Metairie for 52 years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sylvia Polites Clavier. Harold was the son of the late Daniel H. Clavier and Mae Hall Clavier. He is the father of Madeleine (George) Clavier Harp, Harold (Sylvia) J. Clavier, Jr., Mark A. Clavier, and Celeste Gordon. He has seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Harold is the brother of the late Thelma Byrd, Daniel Clavier, Ethel Fhen, Milton (Mook) Clavier, and Grace Gauthier. Harold, a graduate of LSU, also attended the University of Miami, the University of Southern Mississippi, and Louisiana Tech. He managed the Imperial Café in Hammond for 14 years. After his transition to education, he taught adult education, was a counselor and teacher at the W.W. Lewis Junior High School in Sulphur, La., and then a counselor at Chalmette High School. Prior to retiring in 1984, he served as the Dean of Nunez Community College in St. Bernard, La., for 14 years. Harold served his country for 2 years in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Hammond Lions Club for 11 years and then the Rotary Club in Metairie and Chalmette for 32 years. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., in Metairie on Monday, March 30, 2015, at 11:00 am.
