Julia DiGiovanni Obituary

Julia DiGiovanni, 89, died of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma on February 13, 2016 in Slidell, Louisiana and was a long time resident of Chalmette. Julia is survived by her 4 children Dorothy Rumore (Thomas), Rose Marie Sand, Judy Cook (David) and Joseph DiGiovanni Jr. (Gay); her 8 grandchildren Tammy Fielder, Lori Johnson, Clint Sand, Angie DeHarde, Julie Cook, Jeffrey DiGiovanni, Katie Crosswhite, Amy Hogue; her 10 great grand children Bobbye Abney, Ralph Abney, Jacob Johnson, Ross Abney, Brittany Fielder, Lyndsey Johnson, Jesse Abney, Brady DeHarde, Gavin DeHarde, Shelby Crosswhite; her great great grandson Joshua Fielder; her sister Camille Guidry, her brothers Joseph Palazola and Vic Palazola. Julia was preceded in death by her husband Joseph DiGiovanni Sr., her parents Vic Palazola and Rose Lamonte Palazola, her son-in-law Milton Sand, granddaughter Gina Sand; her brother Anthony Palazola. Julia was born on April 19, 1926. At 14 she began working at a cigar factory. From 1974 until 1987 she worked at Andrew Jackson High School in Chalmette as a cafeteria manager. She met her husband Joe at the young age of 15, married at 19 and was blessed with 42 years of marriage. Joe was the love of her life and left this world much too soon but remained ever present in her heart. Julia was a truly extraordinary ordinary person. She lived her life without the thoughts of "I can't but rather I can." At the young age of 80 she won a professional dance competition. Age meant nothing. She inspired her extended family to attain their goals with a "why not attitude." At the end of her life she was surrounded by all of her family with joy and thanksgiving that they were a part of her life. She will be missed terribly. The family would like to thank Elaine and Richard Price and her nurses Cindy Monistere and Naomi Bauers for their unconditional support and love as well as her bingo and pokeno friends who continually supplied smiles and laughter. A funeral service with visitation is scheduled on Wednesday February 17th from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Genevieve Church 58203 Hwy. 433, Slidell, LA immediately followed by a mass. Mrs. DiGiovanni will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens, 701 W. Virtue Street, Chalmette, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers donations for the Milton Sand Memorial Scholarship c/o The Voices Foundation would be appreciated. VoicesofLouisiana.org. Dear Judy, Dottie, and Family,
I did not personally know your mother, but from what I have read, and the stories I've heard, she sounds like a wonderful lady. It sounds like she lived life to the fullest, and I believe that you, her loving family, gave her the best of times in her final years.
Prayers for each of you as you journey the path of celebrating her life, and grieving her loss. And prayers for the eternal peace and rest of her soul. Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord; and may Perpetual Light shine upon her.
With love, Donelle Crovetto
