Marie C. Sherman

SANDUSKY: Marie C. Sherman, 82, of Sandusky, died Saturday, February 13, 2010 while visiting her son in Smethport, PA. She had been battling cancer for more than a year.
A native of Fremont, she was born March 31, 1927, the daughter of the late Rose (Beir) and Edward Hoelzle. A 1945 graduate of St. Joseph's High School, Fremont, she married Raymond E. Sherman on July 26, 1947 in Fremont. He preceded her in death on February 4, 1995.
Marie lived in Boston, MA and Keokuk, IA while her husband pursued a career in broadcasting, before returning to Ohio in 1950. She was an operator at Ohio Bell Telephone in Sandusky and then worked at Chrysler Plastics as the front office receptionist and retired from the accounting department in 1990.
She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Sandusky, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Collector's Club and the Red Hat Society.
Marie is survived by her two sons: Gregory (Maryla) Sherman of Huron, Jeffery (Melody McDowell) of Smethport, PA; daughter: Denise Eaton of Iowa; grandchildren: Amy Rodriguez of Sandusky and Brian Rodriguez of Iowa; two sisters, Hilda Hoelzle of Fremont and Norma Ochs of Port Clinton.
In addition to her parents; and husband; Marie was preceded in death by sister: Marguerite Hoelzle; and brother: Don Hoelzle.
Friends may call on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, from 4-7 p.m. in the Groff Funeral Home, 1607 E. Perkins Avenue, Sandusky. Prayers will be recited in the funeral home on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky.
