Frances Walker Obituary

Frances Hickman Walker

Frances Hickman Walker, 89, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, in Monroe, LA. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, April 1, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA. The family will receive guests one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Jackson, MS.

A native of Dupo, IL, she has lived in Monroe for the past 59 years. She was retired from the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home where she had served for 35 years as the Administrative Assistant to the Director of Campus Life, Dr. Clarence Powell. She loved her work at the Children's Home and felt so blessed to serve Dr. Powell and to be able to know so many of the children who lived there while she was on staff. She enjoyed making crafts and doll clothes and was constantly sharing her creations with friends and family. In her later years, she became an avid doll collector. She was an excellent cook and was known for her wonderful cookies, cakes, and goodies. She had a special relationship with all of her nieces and nephews and loved to create special gifts for them for each of the holidays. She loved all of her family very much! There was never a dull moment when Aunt Frances/Aunt Sissy was around.

She was preceded in death by her parents, A. J. and Lois Hickman; her brothers, Paul Hickman and Ed Hickman; and her niece, Barbara Nell Hickman Scroggins.

Mrs. Walker is survived by her husband of 59 years, B.A. Walker, who was the love of her life. She is also survived by her step-children, Jeannie Parscal of Leon, KS and Wally Walker of Oklahoma City, OK; her brother, Wayne Hickman of Jupiter, FL; as well as a niece and four nephews.

Memorials can be sent to the Louisiana Baptist Children's Home, PO Box 4196, Monroe, LA 71211.
