Gertrude Schultz Obituary

Gert B. Schultz, age 77, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 12, 2016. Gert was born on June 23, 1938 in the town of Springvale, WI to the late Edwin and Bernice (Czoschke) Raube. After high school, Gert worked as a beautician for a few years, before becoming employed by the Oshkosh Daily Northwestern delivering papers to the patients at Mercy Hospital for 25 years. She also worked at the Gilded Lily Boutique for many years. Gert married John Schultz Jr. on September 23, 1961, in Oshkosh. She was a very active, lifetime member of First English Lutheran Church. In 1971, Gert became active in working with the Miss Oshkosh beauty pageant and became chairman in 1975, which she continued to do until the present. She was also a member of the Oshkosh Area Women's Association. She enjoyed traveling with her cousins, including Janice, to Ireland and Connecticut, and many other exciting places. She also traveled to Atlantic City for the Miss America Pageants with John prior to his death.

Gert is survived by her brothers: Dennis (Louise) Raube and Ray (special friend Beth) Raube; nephews: Eric (Angie) Raube and David Raube; cousins: Janice Ott, Mary Miller, Peter (Karla) Priepke, Sue Gauger and Marlowe Wimme; special friends: Gordy Lund, Marilyn McCormick, Joey McKay Neuman, Lois Abitz, Betsy Fox, and Darlene Darrow.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband John.

Services for Gert will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, March 18, 2016, at First English Lutheran Church, 1013 Minnesota Street, Oshkosh, with Rev. Tim Greenwald and Rev. Martin Ruge officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM Friday until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First English Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.

My parents, Joe and Theora Harcourt, worked for many years with Gert and John on the Miss Wisconsin Pageant and they became very good friends. Even after all these years of both of my parents being gone and my move to CA, Gert and I still contacted each other at Christmas. She was a wonderful and giving lady and will be missed. With sympathy to her family.

We are so saddened to hear of Gert's passing. She meant so much to both Steve and I. So many fond memories of times spent with her and John and after his passing, with Gert alone. She was Godmother to our daughter Erin, John and Gert came out to Califonia for her wedding in May of 2002. I am so sorry for your loss.

March 16, 2016

I was sorry to learn of the passing of Gert Schultz. She and her fellow Miss Oshkosh pageant co-directors (Marilyn and Gordy) have been such an important factor for not only the continuation but also the great success of the long-running Miss Oshkosh pageant.

It was always nice to see Gert at various pageants I had attended (including the Miss Madison pageant) the last twenty-five years since I had been acquainted with her and her beloved late husband John, who died in August of 2006. With both of them now gone, it will leave even a wider gap for newer supportive pageant volunteers to fill.

It was ironic that Gert Schultz died on the morning of the 2016 Miss Oshkosh pageant on Saturday, March 12, 2016, but her good efforts, hard work, and the lasting memory of Gert will last for many more Miss Oshkosh pageants in the years to come.

Condolences to the Raube and Schultz families, and also to the network of many loyal Miss Oshkosh pageant directors and volunteers.

With sympathy,

Deepest sympathies on the loss of Gert. She was one-of-a-kind! Will never forget all the kindness she bestowed on our daughter Melissa & our family when she was in the Miss Oshkosh pageant in 2002. What a wonderful woman, so encouraging to young women....we will never forget her!!
Gert & Gordy were known as the
"fairy godmothers" to all the girls!!
Gert always remembered your name too.....I would run into her in town years later & she would always ask about my daughter...unbelievable! What a lovely lady.
She will be missed.
