Rahr, Charles "Chuck"

Charles Frederick Rahr, 87, of the Heritage Woods in Appleton, a former longtime resident of Oshkosh, passed away on February 29, 2016 at Appleton Medical Center. Chuck was born on October 3, 1928 in Oshkosh to Carl T. and Edna V. (Much) Rahr. During his early years at home he enjoyed sailboat racing and iceboat racing on Lake Winnebago. He belonged to the Oshkosh Yacht Club, the Oshkosh Iceboat Club and the Southside Iceboat Club. He became an excellent trap shooter, winning several state championships and was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association. He also loved model railroading. He attended the Oshkosh State College and later graduated from the Oshkosh Business College before attending the Siebel Brewing Institute in Chicago. Upon his return to Oshkosh he took his place as Brewmaster at the Rahr Brewery until the brewery closed in 1956. He then worked at Appleton Memorial Park Cemetery as Office Manager. Most of his life was lived in Oshkosh, but in about 1980 he moved to Appleton. During his years in Appleton, you could often find him enjoying lunch at his favorite restaurant, Mary's Family Restaurant.

He is survived by his brother Robert (Mary) Rahr, Sr. of Appleton, nephew Robert (Lee) Rahr, Jr. of Appleton, grandniece Brynn (Cody) Cepura of Orlando Florida and grandnephew Bryce Rahr of Appleton as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one niece Debra Rahr.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at Highland Memorial Park, 3131 N. Richmond Street in Appleton at 11:00am. Visitation will be on Thursday at Highland Memorial Park from 10:00am to 11:00am with Rev. Kurt Hoffman officiating. Entombment at Highland Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy, memorials can be donated to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Appleton.
