Gerald Porter Obituary

Gerald ("Jerry")

Allen Porter
Gerald ("Jerry") Allen Porter, 77, died on Saturday, April 30, 2011, of complications due to cancer. He is survived by his daughters Kathy and Debbie, and sons Tom, Mark, Tim and Christopher, 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandsons, all from his first marriage. His beloved son "Little Jerry" and second wife Edith were waiting for him in Heaven and are now showing him around. Jerry was born in Spokane, WA in 1934 and his family later moved to Sandpoint, ID. He served four years in the Navy during the Korean War, and then later worked as a steamfitter. At the time of his retirement, he worked at Satsop Nuclear Plant. He was an extremely strong union advocate and member of the United Association Local Union 26 out of Olympia from 1957 to 1986. His loyalty was evident in his commitment to buying only American-made products. Steelhead fishing was not only Jerry's hobbyhorse, but a vocation. He was also an avid gardener, a handyman, and could make the best ever smoked salmon.
He was a great storyteller and a people person. He will be missed by many. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, May 11, at 2:30 p.m., at the Mountain View Funeral Home (4100 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W., Lakewood, WA). A memorial celebration will follow at the home of Tim and Tammy Porter in Puyallup, WA.
