Phillip Hatfield Obituary

Phillip W. Hatfield

Phillip, age 61, passed away on June 6, 2011 of natural causes in Tumwater, WA. Phil was born on January 21, 1950 in Fort Benning, GA to Willie and Yvonne Hatfield. In 1970 he joined the United States Army, and served for 20 years. He met his wife Kimberly in Tumwater, WA and married on January 20, 2001. Phil served proudly in the United States Army. During the Vietnam War he was an Infantry soldier and a Huey door gunner. After the war he served as a Drill Sergeant in Ft. Knox, KY and concluded his service as a First Sergeant in Ft. Lewis, WA. He enjoyed his retirement days cruising around on his lawnmower, and loved spending time with his family and friends. He always had his faithful dog, Ranger, by his side and spent time with his grandchildren by providing them with odd jobs. Phil was a life-time member of the VFW #5878 in Tenino, WA. Phil is survived by his loving wife Kimberly, and four children, Michelle Hatfield of Tumwater, Steve Hatfield with his wife Jenni of Lacey, and Brandon and Brettnie Bratchovd of Tumwater. He has seven grandchildren, Melanie Newcomb, Tyler Sundberg, Venessa and Samantha Hatfield, Robert and Scott Ullerich and Kendyle Greene. Phil lived his life to the fullest and gave so much to those who knew him. He was known as a straightforward, sharp-witted man who always had humorous stories and anecdotes. He is a true American patriot, who will be missed. A visitation will be held from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at Mills & Mills Funeral Home, 5725 Littlerock Rd SW, Tumwater, WA. Grandpa,
Through everything you have taught me I really have learned the value to a person. You taught me things that to this day and days ahead will make me who I am. I am planning on joining the Army and doing the best I can for you.Everytime you would call me in class (granted the class wasn't hard) and give me a hard time because I couldn't answer your political questions I would go back to class and tell my teacher -Lt. in the Army- all the war stories you tell me. You taught me to be proud of myself and my last name, something that was given to me. They sure are big boots to fill. I only dream about being the fantastic person you were, and I only know with time that I can be who you want me to be. I love and miss you so much, I think about you constantly.
Love Your 3rd Eldest Grandchild.

Dad,
Sometimes you were hard on us, other times you were the best dad in the world. Either way, you loved us and we loved you! You taught me how to rotate the tires on the Blazer, and how to put the tranny back in the stepside. We enjoyed listening to music together. I would hear a "New" song on the radio that I thought was so cool and you would like, and next thing I'd know, you'd start digging through your albums & putting one on the record player only for me to find out that the really cool new song from Van Halen was a remake from the band "The Kinks". Dad, I love you very much and will miss you!---Shell
