Sophie Scafidi Obituary
Sophie Scafidi, 83, of Olympia, WA passed peacefully at Mother Joseph Care Center on February 11, 2011. Born as Sophie Mezeski on August 4, 1927, she lived along the east coast before moving to Olympia in 2006. Sophie was incredibly resilient, hard-working, and strong-willed. As a life-long learner and positive thinker, she accomplished much in her life that was unexpected. She will be terribly missed.
Sophie is survived by her three daughters Jean Buonato, Linda Pisano, and Carolyn Scafidi, her two sons Edward Scafidi and John Scafidi, 10 grandchildren, including Alex Dzinbal of Olympia, and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rosario (Sam) Scafidi.
Her family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers at Mother Joseph Care Center and Providence Hospice for their loving care during Sophie's final weeks.
A celebration of Sophie's life wil be held at the Chapel at St. Michael's Catholic Church at noon on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. Given her lifelong love of the sea, the family requests that donations be made to the Ocean Conservancy in her name.
