Lois Hamilton Obituary

MERIDEN - Lois Jacobowitz Hamilton, 83, passed away peacefully at the Meriden Center on Saturday, April 28, 2012. She was the wife of the late Harry Hamilton of Meriden for 28 years.

Lois was born in Cabot, Vt., Sept. 25, 1928, the daughter of the late Raymond Rogers and Anna Monthei and was the stepdaughter of Alvin Monthei. Lois attended schools in Vermont and moved to Connecticut with her family in her teen years. She was a champion bowler and later in life became the first woman manager of a large department store in New England, Stars Department Store in Wallingford. After Stars she became the TV Lady at the Meriden-Wallingford Hospital on Cook Avenue. She loved to dance, garden and enjoyed music of all kinds. She also liked to go camping and in retirement loved to go to Myrtle Beach in the winter with her husband Harry. She was a cherished grandmother and loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart. She lived to watch them grow, play sports, sing, dance and perform, attending all their games, recitals and shows.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn A. Lynes and her husband, Robert of Meriden; her son, Edward W. Jacobowitz and his wife, Margo; and her stepdaughter, Kathleen Singer and her husband, James, all of Wallingford; her six grandchildren, John, Thomas and Samantha Lynes, Joseph and Keith Jacobowitz, and Brian Jacobowitz; two step-grandchildren, Paul and Mathew Singer; her brother, David Rogers and his wife, Barbara, of Middlefield; and many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Paul "Whitey" Jacobowitz Jr.; her step-grandchild, John Singer; and her brothers, Robert, Larry and Raymond Rogers.

The family would like to thank Doctor T, the nurses, especially, Jennifer, Christina and Jackie and the rest of the staff at the Meriden Center for their skilled and compassionate care of Lois on her journey home.

A celebration of Lois' life will be held on Saturday, May 26, at 11 a.m. at Saint Andrews Episcopal Church, 20 Catlin St., Meriden. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Meriden. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory can be sent to the Maloney High School Allegrettos, 121 Gravel St., Meriden, CT 06450. Attention: David Pellitier, Music Director. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St. Ext.
