Andrew SERINK Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province from Dec. 30 to Dec. 31, 2016.
SERINK, Andrew
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Andrew Serink, husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and friend. Dad passed away on December 22, 2016 at the age of 90, after a short battle with cancer. Andy was born in Lamont, Alberta, the 10th child of 14. He moved to Vancouver in 1947 working for CNR, then onto US Freight Forwarding and Johnston Terminals. Dad was an avid curler at the Vancouver Curling Club, musician playing the drums, and political activist all his life. He could fix anything and adapted many objects to his personal needs. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Vera, daughter Andrea Hayden and her husband Bruce, two grandsons; Connor and Mark of Vancouver, sisters; Rose Maksymic, Nellie Davies, and Delores Muzyka, many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Andy was predeceased by his son, Michael in 1988, four sisters, and six brothers. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at First Memorial Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Road, North Vancouver. Donations may be made in memory of Dad to the charity of your choice.

One of the best NDPers I ever met and one heck of a nice guy. Whenever we met by chance at Champlain Mall, he was willing to stop and talk. He attended every AGM and donated generously on a regular basis to his local federal riding, where I first met him. My heart goes out to his family.

Dear Aunt Vera, Andrea, Bruce, Connor and Mark.
What can I say. Why? For this man who did everything right, from his porridge in the morning, ate right, exercise, his pride in his family.
We always got a hard time about living in Alberta and when Alberta went N.D.P., I think he must have phoned everyone here. He was a great guy and I enjoyed our differences of opinion. which often weren't that different).
Mr.Music. At age 90,he was still playing Gig's. Drum on, my last and most handsome uncle. Drum on.

I am very saddened by the news that Andy has died. He was always a friendly point of contact for me with the BC Humanist Association. Each month he would phone me to remind me of the meeting. We often spoke of politics together and enjoyed a laugh. He will be remembered by many people. Condolences to his family and friends.

It was with sadness that I read of the death of Andrew Serink. I knew him for many years through our mutual memberships in the BC Humanist Association.

I was always impressed by his optimistic outlook on life, his grasp of current affairs, and his ability to see the good in almost everyone.

I offer my condolences to the family members and trust that they will soon adapt to this new reality.

Our Condolences to my Aunt Vera and Andrea and family. Being a Serink, Andrew will always be know for that Serink party spirit and being a musician, something that binds the whole Serink family together and of course those fun filled family party events and reunions. Andrew and Vera always had an open house for those Edmonton Serink's. I'll never forget the time Uncle Andrew picked us up at a 4 hour Vancouver Airport stop over to LA for a visit and quick tour of Vancouver and the Marina. Our Grandchildren, Austin and Brooklyn still recall the event, thank you so much. Uncle Andrew was a great guy and I always had a good time listening to his Marxist/ NDP leanings, he certainly voiced his oppionions about us "Capitalist Albertan's", still can't figure out if he was serious or just joking around. Uncle Andrew, like your brother James, you'll always be remembered and I'm so Happy That You lived a long and happy life with minimal suffering after Quality of life and not long life is what really counts. Hoping your Grandchildren will carry on your love of music. Grant and Carmen Serink, Edmonton

Although i did not know Andy well as a neighbour, he constantly demonstrated his generous and compassion manner by driving my mother to chemo-therapy when i was working out of town. He was a prince of a man and a blessed
exalted role model. dave Warren

I was saddened to learn of Andy's passing. How fortunate was I to have curled with Andy on the Methven/Lord Rink at VCC's Motors League for over 15 years; Andy was my mentor. Missing you; condolences to Vera and Andrea at this difficult period. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you unfortunately at this Orthodox Christmas time of year. Will miss the special phone call! Dick.

I have known Andy since we became neighbours in 2001. He always made you smile and he always had time for you. He was a talented musician and a great entertainer and did his very best to make the world a better place to live in. I am proud to have known him and will do my best to honor him by living up to his standards and values. I will miss him dearly. A great loss to us all. John Andrew McCormack.

I have known Andy for years through the Fraserview NDP. He was a committed, hard working and passionate advocate for justice and his support for progressive politics. He could always make me laugh with his dry wit and fun loving eyes. I'll miss seeing you on the golf course patio. Peace be with you Andy - my thoughts are with you Vera.

Our family is so sorry to hear of Andy's passing. Andy and my dad Harry had a lifetime of friendship starting back in the early years in Edmonton with CN Rail, when they both came out to Vancouver at a similar time and carried on their friendship through work, curling and family. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Vera and Family.

I well remember Andy at JTL. The discussions over coffee at 2020 Yukon were always vocal, always polite, and always gentlmanly. The music that Andy's group provided at a JTL Xmas dinner is always remembered, partliculary the Jack Pughe rendition of Roar You Lions Roar. Happy Trails, Andy

We will always cherish the fun times that we shared in Radium together. I will always remember him for his curling enthusiasm as well. Uncle Andy was very young at heart. We will never forget the memories we shared and the good times we had. With deepest sympathy, my heart goes out to Aunt Vera, Andrea and Bruce. Hugs and prayers to all the family.

I'll always remember Uncle Andy from the visit we had while I was working in Vancouver and from the CTV interviews at the Curling Club. My heart goes out to Vera, one of the nicest aunts a person could have, and to Andrea who loved her dad so much.
