Lila Griffith Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on May 11, 2017.
Lila Anne GRIFFITH

Born in Vancouver on April 20th, 1932, Lila Anne GRIFFITH (nee Prudhomme) passed away peacefully at her home in Kelowna on May 1, 2017. Lila grew up in East Van and Vancouver Island, where she trained as a nurse before earning her B.A. at the U of Washington in 1957 and embarking on a career as a teacher. Lila will be fondly remembered by her students and the many athletes she worked with as a long-time coach with the Norwesters Track Club and as an official with BC Athletics. An enthusiastic arts aficionado, Lila loved to dress to the nines for an evening out at the symphony, opera or theatre. She found great joy in travelling the world. Predeceased by her husband John and sister Laurie, Lila will be missed dearly by her sisters Linda and Lee, her children Anne-Rachelle, Wynn and Dylan, her five grandchildren and large extended family and many friends. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 13 at 1pm at West Van Seniors' centre . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the CNIB or West Van Seniors' Centre.

Lila. I remember you so fondly as a great teacher and friend. Those expeditions canoeing the Bowron Lakes, kayaking the Broken Island Chain and hiking the West Coast Trail are some of my loveliest memories. You were an amazing friend and I am sorry we lost touch recently. My Christmas card just came back in the mail: a clue that all was not well. My deepest sympathy goes to your family. I can see you now sitting by a log fire on the beach so tired after the long trail but always so positive. I wish you safe travels.
