Eugene Carpenter Obituary

Eugene "Gene" Carpenter passed away from natural causes on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at the age of 87. He is survived by his children, Daughter and son-in-law Kelly and Ryan Whipp, and his grandchildren Kane and Kage Whipp all of Inwood W.Va., formerly of Waynesboro, Pa. He is also survived by his son Robert (Bobby) Carpenter also of Inwood W.Va., formerly of Waynesboro, Pa.
He was born in Chicago, Ill., and lived most of his life in Waynesboro, Pa. He lived the last four years in Greenville, N.C., at Cypress Glen Retirement Community. He served his country in the Navy during World War II and had a long career working with the federal government in communications. He always lived life to the fullest and was thrilled when his job offered him the opportunity to live and work in both Europe and Korea for extended periods. Post retirement he enjoyed a variety of jobs and activities. He worked as a cook at the Waynesboro Day Care Center. He worked at Ski Liberty for several years. He was a member of the Blue Ridge Summit Lions Club. He Enjoyed attending many sporting events and participated as a coach in baseball and basketball. He was an avid racquetball player. He was an elementary school crossing guard where he required each child to give him a "high five" before they could pass by him. He was a crossing guard for so long that he delighted in seeing the children he used to cross walking their children to school. His favorite thing in life, which he was good at, was to make people smile.
A memorial service will be held at Cypress Glen Retirement Community on Friday, March 7, at 2 p.m.

We went to a lot of basketball & softball games & usually sat with Gene & his family. We became friends & he was always fun to be with. We've missed seeing him. May he rest in peace.
