Papa Lee went home to the Lord quietly in his sleep after a short battle with esophageal cancer.
He was a wonderful man with a heart as big as the sky. He never met a stranger, never turned his back on a friend. He had been a crossing guard and a volunteer for many years. He had played Santa for schools, daycares and friends. He touched the lives of everyone he met in some way. He was always there with a smile and a wave. His caring nature made him an indispensable part of our lives. His love of life was an inspiration to many.
He served in the Navy for many years, even taking part in the A-bomb testing. He worked for the state of California for 25 years. He retired in 1991 and moved to Vacaville in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie, in 1998.
He is survived by his son, Bill and daughter-in-law, Maggie; granddaughters, Penny, Beverly and Mary; and 10 great-grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life potluck party on Jan. 8 at 1 p.m. at Andrews Park in Vacaville. Anyone who wishes to attend is invited. Papa Lee asked to be remembered with smiles and laughter, not tears and sorrow.
There will be a private ceremony at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, which will be his final resting place.
Arrangements are by McCune Garden Chapel, 448-6546, www.mccunechapel.com.

It´s been a long while since your passing. I can still remember your laugh, your big hugs and your smell. I will always miss those childhood memories with Billy, Tommy and I. Thanks to you- every summer we could go to Marine World etc. I love you Papa Lee. Watch over my girls for me, would ya? Xoxo.

I always wondered who the waving crossing guard was at Vaca Pena when I dropped my girls off to school. Seeing his smiling face and him waving every morning made my day. I always thought he knew me. Not until I met Penny a few years ago did I find out how special of a man he was. He has left me with a smile on my face and I now wave to strangers. He will be missed.

Papa always had a smile, a helping hand, and,on occasion, a few choice words for drivers that were not following directions. He is sorely missed but as a friend of mine said... "Heaven must have needed a Santa".
