Born in Eugene, Ore., he grew up river rafting, swimming and fishing and learned to love big band music at his family's dance hall on the Willamette River. He graduated from the University of Oregon as a journalist. He began his career as a radio investigative journalist and honed his investigative skills while employed during his 26-year career as an investigator for the Solano County District Attorney's Office. He and Betty settled in Solano County to raise their family and were life-long members of the catholic church, first at the Holy Spirit parish and later at St. Joseph's.
He was an active church volunteer as a lector at Mass, a founding member of Fairfield's St. Vincent DePaul Society, and a marriage preparation counselor. He and Betty helped establish a centering prayer group with Sister Maura O'Sullivan, a Sister of the Holy Faith. He left life surrounded by loved ones and with his beloved University of Oregon Ducks in first place.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Betty; three children, Lach Loud (Ann Keehbauch), Jennifer Loud (Paul Englehart), and Gretchen Stenz (Terry Stenz); and six grandchildren, Alec Lewellyn, Conor Lewellyn, Emma Stenz, Rachel Stenz, Jack Loud and Sam Loud.
A rosary will be held at Nadeau Family Funeral Home on Monday, Nov. 1, at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Sacramento National Cemetery in Dixon.
