Imogene Martin Obituary

Oct 4, 1926 - Nov. 16, 2010

Imogene Thomas Martin passed away on Nov, 16, at UC Davis Medical Center after a severe heart attack. Born in Lebanon, Indiana to Joseph and Olive Thomas, Imogene married Merl Martin, the local war hero, in Rockville, Indiana in 1944. She enjoyed the life of a military wife, living in Indiana, Texas, Japan and California. She spent most of her working life as a school secretary for the Vacaville and Pioneer school districts. She particularly enjoyed "training" the various principals with whom she worked.

Imogene was predeceased by her parents, loving husband Merl and brothers Joseph and Robert. She is survived by her twin sister Inez of Tuscon, Ariz.; sister Lucille of Westchester, Ohio; daughter Lynn Recknagel (Tom) of Fairfield, Calif.; son Sam Martin, grandson Carl Lafreniere and great-grandson Michael Lafreniere, all of Vacaville, Calif.; grandson Shayne Recknagel of Eugene, Ore.; granddaughter Cristen Malia (Gavin) and great-grandsons Seamus and Cooper Malia, all of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; plus many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Some of Imy,s favorite pastimes over the years included softball, bowling and bridge. She was very devoted to her twin sister Inez and loved celebrating their birthdays together, with Imy often commenting on being "the youngest" twin and the "left-handed one." A long-time Giants fan, she spent many enjoyable hours watching the games with her son Sam and was able to cheer her team on as they won the World Series. Go Giants!

A private service is planned with the family. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to donate to Meals on Wheels of Solano County, 95 Marina Center, Suisun City, Calif., 94585.

It is said that a person dies three times.
Once when the doctors say so.
Once when they are buried.
and last, when their name is no longer mentioned.
Imogene is still here with us and will be for some time.

The marvelous work that you have done with your life will be echoed through your son, Sam, and for endless generations here on earth throughout eternity. I am forever grateful to you.
