Junior Gardner, 83, of Fairfield, passed away on Veterans Day.
He was born in Hamburg, Iowa, on Oct. 4, 1927.
In September 1945, he joined the Navy where he worked as a pipefitter. He was proud to have served aboard the USS Platte, USS Repose, USS Jason and the USS Windham Bay. Starting out in Omaha Neb., the ports he served were San Diego, San Francisco and Coronado, Calif., and on to Yokosuka, Japan. Junior earned the World War II Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal, Good Conduct Medal, China Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.
Services will be held at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery on Nov. 29 at 2:30 p.m.
Donations may be made to the Veterans Hospital, Shasta Unit, Martinez, Calif.
