Marie Castro Wilson was born on Oct. 6, 1930, in Vacaville.
She passed away on Nov. 13 in Sacramento at age 80.
Beloved wife of William Wilson for 55 years, loving mother of sons Scot and Ty Wilson and daughter Tawney Lambert. Loving grandmother of five grandchildren, Ted, Ken and Jack Lambert, Carter and Cole Wilson.
Marie was the youngest child of Alonzo and Julia Castro, both immigrants from Spain. Reared on a ranch on Pleasants Valley Road, Marie graduated valedictorian from middle school, attended Girls State with top grades at Vacaville High School. She graduated with great distinction from Sacramento City College. While raising her children, she served as a Brownie and Cub Scout leader. In 1981, she graduated from California State University, Sacramento with a B.A. in Spanish.
Later, Marie served as a bilingual assistant in West Sacramento schools, was a charter docent at Sacramento History Museum, a coordinator of the Spanish Conversation class with the Renaissance program at CSUS, an avid race-walker with many awards, devoted member of the Stretch and Flex exercise class and volunteer at Belle Cooledge Library.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Alonzo and Fernando Castro.
She is survived by her husband, William; sister, Juanita Garcia; her children and grandsons.
A celebration of her life is planned for Jan. 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Vizcaya Mansion, 2019 21st St., Sacramento.

I didn't find out about Marie's death until February 13. Even though I only saw her and Bill at occasional meetings, I was very impressed by her warmth, charm, and intelligence. I can see how she'll be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Marie, my Mother in law was an amazing women. I loved her so much. She was an amazing Grandmother as well. We miss her. We have so many memories of her, and will cherish them always.
