Patricia Ann Warner

1933 - 2018

Patricia Ann Warner, a long-time resident of Rolla Missouri, died Monday, February 26 at her home in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. She was born to the late Ralph David and Helen Charlotte Walker (Brown) on May 3, 1933 in McCook, Nebraska.
The family moved to Denver where Pat graduated from South high school. Pat then attended the University of Denver where she studied for a Bachelor of Arts in Education and was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. While there, she met the love of her life and future husband Don in 1953 while he was attending the Colorado School of Mines in nearby Golden.
Taking a break from her studies, Pat attended training and became a stewardess for United Airlines, based in New York City in 1956. She then was transferred to her new home base in Salt Lake City, where she reunited with Don, who was by then working in San Francisco for Standard Oil Company of California. When they received word of Don's impending transfer to Guatemala, the couple married on February 24, 1957 in Reno Nevada. Pat then accompanied Don on his adventure, where Pat worked in the US Embassy in Guatemala City.
Upon their return to the states, she continued her education at the University of Denver, where she graduated with a B.A. in Education in 1960. Returning to California, Pat began teaching in the Oakland public schools while Don attended the University of California at Berkeley working towards his PhD, and in May 1963, their oldest son Mark was born.
Upon graduation, Don accepted a position in Cincinnati Ohio and in November 1965, the couple's son Scott was born. Pat continued her studies and received her M.A. in Guidance and Counseling in 1966 from the University of Cincinnati.
The Warner family then moved to Rolla, Missouri in 1969 where Don became a professor at the University of Missouri-Rolla and Pat taught third grade students in the public schools. She retired in 1996 at which time she was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Rolla Public School system. Pat was a beloved teacher and her love of her students and her commitment to education impacted and enriched many children and families in her community. Pat was also always a source of support to Don as he progressed in his career at the University, where he became Dean of the School of Mines and Metallurgy.
Pat was very active socially, especially in her walking group, P.E.O. and the Rolla Bridge club.
With her sharp wit, Pat was always a source of great humor and insight and was also active in Republican politics in Phelps County. She was totally devoted to her family and found great joy in spending time with her four granddaughters.
In 2013, Pat and Don moved to Horseshoe Bay, Texas in order to be closer to Mark's family in Austin. The local Horseshoe Bay community embraced them and Pat continued her competitive bridge playing and was active in the Llano Country Republican Party.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Don, her son Mark and his wife Cissy and daughters Patricia Claire and Mary Charlotte of Austin, her son Scott and his wife Michelle and daughters Bei and Quinn of Omaha Nebraska, sister Sharon and brother in-law Jack Tindall of Katy Texas and many nephews and nieces.
There will be a memorial service for immediate family in Austin in the coming days. Memorials in Pat's honor may be made payable to the P.E.O. Foundation New Fund in Memory of Patricia Ann Warner and mailed to P.E.O. Foundation, 3700 Grand Ave, Des Moines, IA 50312.
