Ellsworth Evans Obituary
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 7, 2011, in Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Ted Mayes officiating and burial will be at Murdale Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Pettett Funeral Home; and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Immanuel Lutheran School.
Ellsworth was born on Feb. 24, 1936, in Oraville to Elmer Evans and Lillian (Bechtlofft) Evans.
He was a retired carpenter and a member of Carpenter's Local 638 in Marion. He had worked at Southern Illinois University Carbondale at the Physical Plant for 32 years.
He also was a farmer and he loved to garden. He loved to bowl in the bowling league. Ellsworth had served in Illinois National Guard in Carbondale for six years from 1959 to 1965. Mr. Evans was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Murphysboro, where he served as an usher.
Ellsworth loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
He married Joyce Beckmann on June 15, 1963, in Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob, and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law; Scott and Tina Evans of Murphysboro and Kevin and Debra Evans of Mayflower, Ark.; four grandchildren, Bradley Evans and Logan Evans, both of Murphysboro, and Amelia Evans and Edmund Evans of Mayflower, Ark.; one brother and sister-in-law, Merle and Kendra Evans of Murphysboro; and six nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

I'm so sorry to hear about Ellsworth's passing. I worked with him at SIU many years ago and remember his brother Merle and alot of Ellsworth's family; all fine people. You all have my condolences and deepest sympathies. I know he was a good man and will dwell in the House of the Lord forever.

I'm sorry to hear of the passing of yet another former SIUC employee. I can remember Mr. Evans from the times he came over to the basement of the old Morris Library, when I worked in the University Archives, there.
