CARBONDALE -- Emmanuel Obemeata Oyathelemi, 41, died Tuesday, April 12, 2011.

He was a graduate student at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

He had a bachelor's degree in industrial technology from Southeast Missouri State University, a master's degree in industrial technology from University of Texas and a master's degree in workforce education from SIU.

He was born April 27, 1969, in Benin City, Nigeria, to Francis and Beatrice Igbebo Oyathelemi.

Survivors include his mother, Beatrice Oyathelemi; six brothers, Paul, Godwin, Edwin, Anderson, Patrick and Humphrey Oyathelemi; one sister, Patience Oyathelemi Asoro; and children, Benjamin and Abigail Oyathelemi.

Services were at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, 2011, in Walker Funeral Home in Carbondale, with the Rev. Gray officiating. Visitation was from noon to 12:30 p.m. before services. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.

I have waited so long to write something on here. Emman was a great friend, brother, confidant and a man of God. ''Emmanuel, you celebrated life and all you wished was that mankind be transformed to the greatest height''. You were a man of good heart, and I still find it hard to believe that you left me alone after many great and aspiring years we had together. My life will no longer be the same; but keep smiling with the Lord like you always did. You still REMAIN a man of substance in my life. Shakunu (our lovely word), we will meet again. Love forever.
