Claranelle Sykes Obituary
She was born Sept. 8, 1915, in Albion, the daughter of John and Ida (Felstead) Birkla.
She was a retired bookkeeper. She worked at Sykes Motor Company in Dongola and Pete Thomas Ford in Cairo. She was a member of the Business Professional Women and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by one son, Larry D. (Darlene) Sykes of Denton, Texas; one granddaughter, Gretchen (Jamie) Wendling of Anna; three grandsons, Mike (Tracy) Sykes of St. Louis, Jeff (Jenny) Sykes of Greenville, S.C., and Dean (Arielle) Sykes of San Diego, Calif.; and seven great-grandchildren, Morgan Wendling, Brandyn Sykes, Joshua Sykes, Josie Sykes, Trevor Sykes, Allison Sykes and Ella Sykes.
She was preceded in death by one son, James Russell Sykes.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2011, in Bethel Cemetery in Bellmont, with Pastor Karen McNeill-Utecht officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola.
